Great day at Ruby Lane!

February 4th, 2011

Many thanks to author Gary W. Moore who certainly went the extra (icey) mile to be in the book store today. And, many thanks to our great customers who helped make this event successful. Can’t forget to thank the Post Area Chamber of Commerce Manager, Janice Plummer, for playing Buddy Holly musc on Main Street today.

We still have copies of “Hey Buddy” – a few signed and dated by the author. Don’t forget Old Mill Trade Day Downtown this Saturday. There is a cash giveaway AND a special drawing for a 42″ TV.

Book Signing Postponed

February 2nd, 2011

Our book signing today by the author of “Hey Buddy” has been postponed. With all flights from DFW cancelled, Gary Moore is driving from Dallas this afternoon.   He WILL be in the store Noon to 1:30 tomorrow (Thurs. Feb 3 – 52nd anniversary of “the day the music died.”) If you can’t make it at noon tomorrow, the store will be open ’til 5 today & at 10 a.m. in the morning. Pre-purchase the book and we’ll get it signed for you.

With the weather being what it is and the delay of the book signing, I have had some time this morning to begin reading “Hey Buddy.” I’m enjoying it!

The Day The Music Died – February 3, 1959

February 1st, 2011

Come by Ruby Lane Books Wednesday, Feb. 2, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and visit with author Gary Moore who will be signing his latest book, “Hey Buddy.” This book has gotten very good national reviews – it is about the author’s personal experience of learning about the influence of Buddy Holly’s life and music. It’s funny, it reveals some new information about the fatal plane crash and explores a conspiracy theory that has been discussed through the years.

We’ll have the coffee on and enjoy getting to know this author and learning more about Buddy Holly. We’ll also have copies of Moore’s 2006 best-seller, “Playing with the Enemy” which will soon be made into a movie.

See you tomorrow and until then, stay warm!

Come by and meet this dynamic writer and speaker!

“The” word for 2011…

January 2nd, 2011

Read! Let’s make a pledge to read more in this new year. We won’t get into the e-book vs real book debate. We’ll simply read more, strive for diversity in our reading and if we do this, we will also have to turn off the TV, be more disciplined about the time we spend on Face Book and other computer-related activities and…read!

I’m reading Nora Efron’s book “I Hate My Neck” – Ephron is a fiction writer, director, producer – Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail, When Harry Met Sally, etc. etc.] In her chapter about being “blind as a bat” and her dependence on reading glasses, I discovered a great paragraph about the benefits of reading: “Reading is one of the main things I do. Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel I’ve accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it’s a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up and reading is a way of making contact with someone else’s imagination after a day that’s all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss!” So…let’s get started reading more TODAY! And, if you need something to read – come by the book store and let’s talk.

Great Book!

December 8th, 2010

Suggest you pick up a copy of “Let’s Take the Long Way Home” by Gail Caldwell. Awesome book – when I finished reading it the first time, I immediately read it again. During this hectic time of year be sure to save some time for yourself!
